Frequently Asked Questions:

Is Flashur an official YouTube® sponsored product?
No, not at all. This product has nothing to do with the good folk at YouTube® or any of the other sites that provide Flash based content it uses. It's purely a labor of love from a private group of individuals.

Which operating system does Flashur work on?
Windows XP® and Windows Vista® (32bit using an administrator level account) are the only supported versions. It may work on earlier versions of Windows but hasn't been tested. There are currently no plans to make a Mac or Linux version.

I use Windows Vista® but I have non-administrator account. Can I use Flashur?
Whilst it's not officially supported, it should work correctly based on limited testing we've done. Let us know what doesn't work if you have problems.

My friend sent me a link to a Web page containing an embedded Flash movie. I pasted that into the custom URL option in Flashur but it didn't work. What did I do wrong?
Flash does not support the display of Web pages - it can only display Flash (SWF) movies directly - not when they are embedded in a Web page. You could try pasting the Web URL into the URL Finder on this site and seeing if it can guess the right Flash URL using the Web URL. If that doesn't work, see the next entry in this FAQ.

I tried using the URL Finder on this site but it wasn't able to help me - what do I do now?
Firstly, send us the Web URL. We will investigate and see if we can use what we find to improve the URL Finder. Next, go to the site where the link came from and look for an "embed movie" option. Sites often like you to do this because it helps to share their content. Copy the embed code it gives you and paste that into the URL Finder edit field. Again, if this doesn't work, send us the embed code and we will investigate.

I tried to embed a Facebook® video - it displays the first frame but you need to press a PLAY button before it will start and I can't do since it's a screensaver?
Annoying isn't it? - Facebook® doesn't appear to want you to auto-play their videos when you embed them. If anyone figures it out, please let us know.

There are some amazing videos on the "(insert video sharing site here)" site and I'd love to use them in Flashur but the URL Finder doesn't work for them and there is no embed option on the site. What do I do?
Go ahead and send us the details. However, if there is no embed link and it's not obvious, it may not be easy to find the right link to the SWF file. In addition, the site may change the format of the URLs it uses at any time and they will cease to work in Flashur. If the videos are that good, you can be sure they'll appear on one of the other sites that do work with Flashur eventually.

My question wasn't answered by this FAQ - what do I do?
If you have a question that isn't answered here, please don't hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to answer.
